STATEMENT ON MAYORAL CONTROL

“Mayoral control is absolutely essential to the efficient operation of our school system — it would go into chaos without it — and there’s no question that it is in the best interest of New York City’s over 1.1 million students,” said Brooklyn Chamber President & CEO Carlo A. Scissura. “As a former member of Community School Board 20, the former President of the Community Education Council for District 20 and an appointee to the reconstituted Board of Education in 2009, I have experienced the numerous positive effects that mayoral control has on students, teachers and the entire school system. The education of our children should always be prioritized, which is why Mayor Bill de Blasio deserves the right — and why Mayor Michael Bloomberg before him had the right — to a full and permanent extension of mayoral control, regardless of politics.”
