How Sweet It Is: Follow Explore Brooklyn’s Trail to the Borough’s Best Chocolate Makers

February 5, 2018

Give your Brooklyn date the borough’s best for Valentine’s Day! Explore Brooklyn’s newly-released Chocolate Tasting Trail Map is a first-of-its-kind guide to the best chocolatiers throughout the borough. From Sunset Park stalwart Li-Lac Chocolates, to Red Hook’s trendy Raaka, the Trail Map caters to all tastes. It includes 12 chocolate producers in neighborhoods all over Brooklyn, from Greenpoint to Madison, as well as addresses, websites, hours and the closest subway stations to each location.

Many of the stops in the guide are also available through A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours, a Brooklyn-based company that leads New York City’s only Chocolate Tour by bus in the borough. Tour groups can meet at Union Square or in DUMBO. For more information, go to asliceofbrooklyn.com.

“Since the 1920s, Brooklyn has been home to great chocolatiers, and we’re proud to recognize them for the first time in the Explore Brooklyn Chocolate Trail Map,” said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Andrew Hoan. “And there’s no better time to draw attention to them than Valentine’s Day. We hope that the trail map will encourage more people, both in and out of the borough, to explore all that this thriving industry has to offer.”

“The Explore Brooklyn Chocolate Trail Map will add to our tradition of promoting the borough’s thriving industries, and we’re pleased to expand into chocolate, which has a long history of growth here,” said Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce Board Chair Denise Arbesu. “We look forward to continuing to draw attention to this borough-wide phenomenon, and helping it create jobs and contribute to economic growth.”

“As a lifelong Brooklynite and chocoholic, it’s been a dream come true launching our Chocolate Tour of Brooklyn just over a year ago and seeing how popular it’s become in that time” said A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours Founder and CEO, Tony Muia. “I’ve come to personally know the chocolate makers we include on the tour, and being able to introduce folks from around the country and around the world to their artisanal and traditional chocolate has been amazing. So is hearing them say our tour’s slogan, which is ‘Hershey’s? FUHGETTABOUDIT!’”

Brooklyn has a long history of chocolate-making that began in the early 20th century, and New York City has been a major trading point for cocoa since the early 1700s.

About A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours

A Slice of Brooklyn Bus Tours was created by lifelong Brooklynite Tony Muia in 2005. After spending twenty years in healthcare and watching tourism flourish in Manhattan, he wanted to change that and created guided bus tours of Brooklyn’s favorite foods, neighborhoods, landmarks and famous movie locations. Most importantly, he had them depart from Manhattan. Now in its twelfth year, the company currently offers the Pizza Tour, the Chocolate Tour, the Neighborhood Tour and the Christmas Lights Tour of Dyker Heights. Besides national and international press, the tours have escorted over 750,000 people around Brooklyn since it started.
