June 9, 2014

Fairway President and CEO Bill Sanford to be Featured Speaker

Citi Commercial to be Lead Sponsor

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce today announced it will be holding its annual Brooklyn Eats food and beverage trade show on June 27 at 630 Flushing Avenue. Fairway President and CEO Bill Sanford will be the featured speaker at the event, where he will speak about how food manufacturers can get their products on the shelves. The lead sponsor for the Brooklyn Eats will be Citi Commercial.

“Brooklyn Eats is the hottest food show in Brooklyn – and it’s where our food and beverage companies make the jump from flea market tables to store shelves,” said Chamber President and CEO Carlo A. Scissura. “It is the one show that brings makers and buyers together for business while allowing the public experience the foods and beverages that are on the forefront of Brooklyn’s food scene. We are excited to have an industry expert in Bill Sanford as our featured speaker, and proud that Citi Commercial is on board as our lead sponsor.”

“Citi recognizes that the food and beverage industries represent a very large segment of Brooklyn’s economic engine,” said Denise Arbesu, Senior Vice President at Citibank and Chamber Board of Directors Chair. “The number of manufacturers, distributors, importers and exporters have grown dramatically over the last dozen years and we as a bank are committed to supporting programs such as Brooklyn Eats as it offers this industry opportunities to grow.  As the Chair of the Brooklyn Chamber I couldn’t be prouder that we are a leader in bringing our business community together.”

“Brooklyn has become a food and foodie mecca over the past decade, and not just with the growing number of great restaurants and gastro-pubs,” said Mr. Sanford.  “In fact, Brooklyn has become a magnet for large and small food and beverage manufacturers and entrepreneurs.  And Fairway is extremely proud to carry some of these wonderful products on our shelves because we are committed to both supporting local businesses and providing our customers with top-quality products that are home-grown.  If I can share a few ‘secrets’ on how to get these products into Fairway by speaking at Brooklyn Eats, I am pleased to do so.  It’s good for Fairway and it’s good for Brooklyn.”

Brooklyn’s food scene has been a growing part of the borough’s economy for several years. Since 2003, manufacturing sector employment is on the rise – reversing decades of declines. The food and beverage sector comprises the largest part of that sector, accounting for 27% of all manufacturing employees in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Eats brings the borough’s best food and beverage manufacturers under one roof with buyers, restaurant/hospitality company reps and curious consumers to enjoy the tastes of Brooklyn.

Located at 630 Flushing Avenue, the show opens to the public at 10:00 am, and from 3:00 – 5:00 pm Brooklyn Eats will be open exclusively to food/beverage buyers. For more info, tickets, and directions visit www.brooklyneats.com.
