BKLYN DESIGNS IS BACK, BIGGER THAN EVER AND MOVING TO GREENPOINT!
December 2, 2014
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to announce that New York’s premier contemporary design show, BKLYN Designs, will return on May 8th, 9th and 10th of 2015.
After a dozen years in DUMBO, this year’s exhibition is moving to the Brooklyn Expo Center, the 40,000-square-foot facility in Greenpoint — a neighborhood that has become a hub of creative activity in the borough. For this year’s event, the Chamber will also collaborate with Novita PR, a marketing consulting firm with deep ties to the international design community.
“The Brooklyn Chamber is proud to host BKLYN Designs 2015 in Greenpoint, and be a part of the artistic renaissance happening in one of New York’s most creative communities,” said Brooklyn Chamber President and CEO Carlo A. Scissura. “There’s no doubt that this year’s show will be bigger and better than ever before, thanks to our partnerships with the Brooklyn Expo Center and Novita PR. I cannot wait to see what our amazing artisans come up with to wow the world of design.”
“Greenpoint is one of the most creative places in Brooklyn, and BKLYN Designs has become a must-see exhibit each and every year — so this partnership makes perfect sense,” said Chamber Board Chair Denise Arbesu. “Our goal at the Chamber is to support and promote all businesses in Brooklyn, and moving this event reflects the recent positive changes in our borough. I look forward to this year’s event, and am confident that the Chamber’s new partnerships will make BKLYN Designs 2015 one to remember!”
Now in its 13th year, BKLYN Designs is an internationally-renowned, juried exhibition of the best Brooklyn-made furnishings, lighting, carpet and flooring, wall coverings and home accessories. Each spring, the event features a dynamic collection of designs from the most innovative Brooklyn-based designers and manufacturers, and includes designer’s booths, seminars, off-site exhibits and street programming. With thousands of visitors expected to attend over the three-day weekend, BKLYN Designs is one of the biggest design shows in New York City, and helps kick off NYCxDESIGN.
“The BKLYN Expo is pleased to be the presenting partner of this year’s BKLYN Designs Show,” said Jack Guttman, President of the BKLYN Expo Center. “Being part of the historic Greenpoint and Williamsburg neighborhoods has given us the opportunity to watch the emergence and rapid growth of Brooklyn as a powerhouse of design and creative endeavors. Together with the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, we are proud to be a part of the platform that continues to attract talented, motivated people to our amazing borough, spurring Brooklyn to even further heights. The BKLYN Expo is the perfect venue to showcase and promote this curated, internationally-renowned selection of dynamic elements from the most innovative and creative furnishing designers and manufacturers that Brooklyn has to offer.”
“For Greenpoint, hosting BKLYN Designs feels like a long awaited homecoming,” said Assemblyman Joseph Lentol. “Not too long ago, unseen in old Greenpoint and Williamsburg factory spaces, the creative interior and exterior design process quietly developed. Now Brooklyn’s creators influence the world of design. It’s terrific to celebrate and promote this important industry right where they started from — here in Greenpoint.”
“The new Greenpoint venue will provide the perfect opportunity to explore the depth and array of what is being designed and created throughout Brooklyn,” said Susan Doban, President of Doban Architecture and CEO of Think Fabricate. “And there will be plenty of space to house seminars and speakers all under one roof, which will make for an exciting weekend for the entire design industry. As former exhibitors, we look forward to this spring’s show with great enthusiasm!”
“We are thrilled that BKLYN Designs is coming to Greenpoint and Williamsburg next year, bringing talented designers and New Yorkers together to celebrate local handicrafts and furnishings right here in our neighborhoods, where we film,” said Gina Argento, President of Broadway Stages. “Broadway Stages is a big fan of all things Made in Brooklyn.”
