About the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce

The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce (BCC) is among the largest and most influential business advocacy
organizations in New York, having spent the last hundred years developing and promoting policies that
drive economic development and advance its members interests. The BCC is the voice of Brooklyn’s
business community, offering the resources, programs, tools, and direct support businesses need to
continue creating jobs and opportunities in their communities.
The Brooklyn Alliance (BA) is the 501(c)(3) not-for-profit economic development affiliate of the BCC. The
BA manages several key business and economic development programs for the BCC, including the NYC
Business Solutions Center, the Good Help small business staffing program, our international trade
partnerships, industry-specific initiatives for the manufacturing and tourism sectors, and the newly
launched Small Business Rapid Recovery Initiative (SBRRI) to help small businesses re-open and navigate
the COVID landscape. Founded in 2017, Brooklyn Alliance Capital (BAC) is the Community Development
Financial Institution (CDFI) lending affiliate of the BCC.

Position Overview

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for handling all Brooklyn Chamber digital
communications, as well as press, social media, and advertising (online and other). The primary line of
reporting for this position will be to the Executive Vice President, however the Specialist will also be
responsible for delivering on assignments by the President & CEO. The Specialist will be required to work
closely with the Brooklyn Chamber Membership Team assisting with membership and retention work.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Assist with Communications tasks, including:
    • Preparing/designing Chamber emails to membership and segmented lists for events and announcements
    • Working with members to share their news and announcements through Chamber communications channels via social media, e-newsletter, website postings
    • Working with PR firm to coordinate traditional communications strategy
    • Preparing the Brooklyn Buzz (weekly e-newsletter)
    • Review and editing of all external publications, marketing collateral, press releases
    • Designing marketing collateral, as needed
    • Assisting President in creating PowerPoint presentations
    • Maintaining press clips
    • Writing remarks, as needed
  • Manage the Brooklyn Chamber’s digital communications
    • Social Media Channels: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn
      • Creating/updating social media graphics for branded events, special announcements, holidays, news
      • Creating copy for social media posts
      • Monitoring and tracking social media analytics along with recommending strategies for greater impact
  • The Brooklyn App / Brooklyn Marketplace
    • Coordinating/creating wall posts, announcement, event postings
    • Engaging with members via comments, messages
    • Managing back-end portal as administrator
  • Brooklyn Chamber website
    • Front-end updates and design will involve keeping pages up to date with relevant content and graphics. This will also involve liaising with Brooklyn Chamber web consultant team which manages the website back-end. Knowledge of WordPress will be required.
    • Be accountable for quality control to ensure that all website and social media content is appropriate,accurate, and functioning properly
    • Photography during events, as needed
      • Organize and archive Chamber photographs
    • Regular staffing of organizational events, which include early mornings, evenings and occasional weekends

Required Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or a related field from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Extremely strong written and verbal communications skills. Highly skilled writer/editor
  • Knowledge and experience with e-marketing, social media techniques, and web analytics
  • Highly organized, with excellent project management skills. Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver high quality results
  • Independently motivated but also a true team player
  • Proficiency with all Microsoft Office products, including PowerPoint
  • Graphic design experience preferred, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Canva
  • WordPress knowledge preferred, or ability to learn quickly

Salary and Benefits

$62,000-$67,000. Full benefits package, Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce is an EEO employer.
